World Golf Hall of Fame Member Sandy Lyle will be competing in the PNC Father/Son Challenge in Orlando, Florida on December 13-16 alongside his son James. In the past, he was unable to compete in this event because his son either was not old enough to play or did not play golf. Once this event returned, he was thrilled to be able to be involved because his son James is not only old enough, he is also a golfer.

His son James plays at Woburn near London which is a very challenging course. He will be interested to see how well his son plays in tournament competition but they played together recently and James played very well. James is about a 5 handicap and a good player but they will both be focused on having a great time next month.

When asked about his Ryder Cup career and not having been a Captain for the European team, Lyle said that he and Larry Nelson had similar circumstances in that they were both Major Champions and experience Ryder Cup competitors but were both passed over. It may have been an issue of timing, but nonetheless he has not had the chance to be Captain. 2014 would have been a wonderful year to lead the team in Scotland but it appears that either Darren Clarke or Paul McGinley will lead Europe at Gleneagles. Nelson is not only a great player, but he is also a gentleman and he would be very deserving of the honor of being U.S. Captain.
