Shanshan Feng - June 12, 2012

Shanshan Feng won the Wegmans LPGA Championship on Sunday and in doing so became the first player –male or female- from China to win a Major Championship. Feng called into the show from New York City where she was planning to do some shopping with some of her winnings from the Wegmans LPGA Championship.

Before the final round, her initial goal was to finish in the top 10 and she knew that that was a distinct possibility. She decided to just play her own game and she did not even look at a leaderboard until she was on the 18th green. She knew that she was playing well enough to have a chance to win but she did not think that she would end up winning by two shots. It has not entirely sunk in that she is now a Major Champion.

After growing up in China, she moved to the United States in 2007 and began working with Gary Gilchrist. He is a great coach and he has also been a great friend to her. They have done some great work together and it is a wonderful feeling to earn a Major win and become the first Major Champion from China.

Growing up, she watched Annika Sorenstam and Karrie Webb compete for World #1 and she admired Karrie Webb the most because of the calm that she displayed during the heat of competition. She hopes to be able to be that calm under pressure.
