Stacy Lewis won the Mobile Bay LPGA Classic last week to move to 4th on the LPGA Tour Money List and 6th in the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings. She went from missing the cut in Hawaii to winning in Alabama and Lewis said that she simply did not play well in Hawaii but after some practice felt good about her game again in Alabama and she was able to win.
She has gotten off to a good start this year and she lost in a playoff in the Women’s Australian Open but lately she has not been as consistent. It felt great to play so well in Alabama and the first three rounds last week was as good as she has played in a long, long time.
Lexi Thompson is a great girl and a great player and she certainly put the pressure on her during the weekend before finishing runner-up. Lewis is convinced that Lexi will be a great player and looks forward to competing with her in the future.
Her first win in the 2011 Kraft Nabisco Championship certainly had a more exciting celebration with Poppie’s Pond than her second win last week but her second win may be more significant because she was able to prove to herself that the first win was not a fluke.
She plays for the pressure that comes with being in contention late in golf tournaments and she really enjoys the excitement coming down the stretch. Considering the fact that she has had to deal with scoliosis it is amazing that she is even able to think about getting into contention late in the final round of a golf tournament. She has been able to meet a lot of young girls with scoliosis and she has tried to inspire them. She encourages kids to play any sport and try to live their lives just as any other kid would live their life and she also advises kids with scoliosis to be patient and wear the brace because if they try to avoid or reduce the treatment, it could make the condition and their life worse in the future.
KPMG is one of her sponsors and she has already received so much support following her win in Alabama last week. Fellow KPMG player Phil Mickelson has been a very nice person to her and she has really enjoyed getting to spend a little bit of time with him and pick his brain about all kinds of subjects.
