Suzann Pettersen and Yani Tseng - May 17, 2012

Annika Sorenstam sat down with LPGA players Suzann Pettersen & Yani Tseng at the Annika & Friends event last week. When asked about World #1, Yani Tseng said that she has learned a great deal about being the best player in the world including how to get used to people recognizing her more often when she is out in public. She enjoys the recognition and knows that she has to continue to work hard and put herself under pressure very often in order to stay World #1.

Suzann Pettersen seeks to become World #1 and she knows that it will take a lot of work. She does not compare herself to other players and instead follows her own heart and does what she wants to do. She knows that if she works hard, she will eventually succeed and become the best in the world.

Yani met Suzann soon after she moved to Orlando, Florida and she feels very lucky to have a friend like her on the LPGA Tour. They have a lot in common as they are both very competitive and like to have bets with each other during practice rounds. They tend to push each other in the right direction when they are playing against each other but they also like to compare notes on the courses that they play.

Pettersen said that the Solheim Cup is the ultimate event in part because golf is such an individual sport but for that one week, you are part of a team where you are playing with teammates under one flag for the same goal. She remembered when she first played as Annika’s teammate in the Solheim Cup and how special it was. It is a great feeling to win as an individual but it cannot compare to the feeling you get when you win the Solheim Cup as part of a team.

Tseng cannot play in the Solheim Cup because she is not from Europe but she does get to play in the Lexus Cup representing Asia and she has always had a lot of fun in that event as she gets to be a part of a team.

When asked about being honored by TIME Magazine as one the 100 most influential people in the world, she said that she was incredibly humbled by the award and she considers it a huge responsibility to try to be a role model to other people and this honor not only lets her know that she is doing a good job but it also tells her to keep going.

Later this year, Suzann will host Annika, Yani, and Lorena Ochoa in Norway for her charitable event which will work to raise awareness about golf in her native country. Growing golf is especially important now that the Olympics is just four years away. Pettersen is an ambassador for golf and for her country of Norway so she wants to do whatever she can to help and is very excited to have Annika, Yani, and Lorena helping her in this goal.

Yani likes to spend her free time playing pool, being in the gym, and cooking. She loves that she decided to buy Annika’s old house in Lake Nona and she is having a lot of fun living in Orlando and also winning lots of trophies so she can fill up Annika’s trophy case.

Suzann loves all things athletic so she likes to spend her spare time playing any kind of sport and she also enjoys skiing, driving, and biking. She recently bought a bike and she enjoys going fast on bikes and in cars.
