Tom Abbott - September 14, 2012

Golf Channel Reporter Tom Abbott is in England this week for the RICOH Women’s British Open. Conditions at Royal Liverpool are very windy and play began on schedule at 7AM local time with winds of about 20 mph. The course was challenging but playable although the tournament was suspended about an hour later as winds had climbed close to 50 mph. Angela Stanford told Abbott that she had never seen winds like this before even though she grew up in Texas where windy conditions are seemingly the standard. Felicity Johnson was 8 over par through 3 holes and on the flip side, Laura Davies was 1 under par through 3 holes.

During the delay, a group of players including Suzann Pettersen and Michelle Wie went to the tournament organizers and asked them to restart the second round and declare the scores that had already been posted and void. Organizers did exactly that under Rule 33-2d and when play resumes, the second round will start as if the earlier scores never occurred.
