Morning Drive

Annika Sorenstam - August 16, 2012

Looking back at the PGA Championship, she said that Rory McIlroy’s win is extremely good for the game of golf because he has a great personality and so much talent. He spends a lot of time signing autographs and being nice to fans and he does not seem to have a single weakness in his game. She has always been a fan of Rory McIlroy and she was very happy to see him win his second Major Championship.

She called Morning Drive from Lake Tahoe and next week, she leaves Tahoe to fly to China where the ANNIKA Invitational will be held at Mission Hills on August 22-24. It was a great event last year and she is looking forward to watching a lot of great young talent. After the event in China, she heads to Sweden where there will be another ANNIKA Invitational. Following the event in Sweden, she will go from watching golf to playing golf when she participates in Suzann Pettersen’s charity event in Norway. She is looking forward to playing with Yani Tseng while Pettersen will team with Lorena Ochoa.

When she watches the players on the LPGA Tour, she admits that she is surprised to see Yani Tseng having some struggles after a great start to the 2012 season. Yani’s struggles have opened the door for a lot of other players and Stacy Lewis seems to be leading that group. The LPGA Tour is playing in Oregon and it is another chance not only for Yani and Stacy but also for many players to earn a win and make their presence known on the LPGA Tour.

Lydia Ko won the U.S. Women’s Amateur at the age of 15 and she is just one of several star teenage girls who are winning not only in the United States but also around the world. Annika said that she is very impressed with their performances and when she compares their upbringing in golf to hers, she says that the young players of today are more involved in fitness and also have more people around them other than just their parents. While she is happy to see so many young girls succeed at a high level, she hopes that they stay in the game of golf for many years and not get burned out.
