Sedgefield Member Carl Pettersson opened with an 8-under-par 62 on Thursday to grab the early lead in the Wyndham Championship. Pettersson is one shot clear of David Mathis as well as fellow North Carolina State graduate Tim Clark.

Trailing by 3 holes with 6 to play, Cal Golden Bear Michael Weaver won four of the last 5 holes to stun Stanford's Patrick Rodgers and eliminate him from the 112th U.S. Amateur at Cherry Hills. Stroke play medalist Bobby Wyatt was also bounced on Thursday by good friend and Alabama teammate Justin Thomas.

Jason Gore and Aaron Watkins posted matching 6-under-par 65s on Thursday to grab a share of the lead in the Web.com Tour's Midwest Classic in Kansas.

#125 in the FedExCup Standings Rod Pampling posted a 2-under-par 68 while #126 Brendan Steele went the other way with a 2-over-par 72 alongside #137 John Daly. Only the Top 125 advance to the first event of the PGA TOUR Playoffs next week in New York.
