Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy got off to solid starts at Bethpage Black. Tiger opened with a 3-under 68 while Rory is just 1 behind him at 2-under-par.

Nicolas Colsaerts needs a top 2 finish to automatically qualify for the European Ryder Cup team and he started hot with a 3-under-par 69 in the Johnnie Walker Championship at Gleneagles.
- Tseng Surge
World #1 Yani Tseng is in the lead in the CN Canadian Women's Open after a 1st round 6-under-par 66. After three early wins in 2012, Tseng has not finished in the top 10 since May.
