Morning Drive

Jay Townsend - March 20, 2012

Luke Donald wins at Innisbrook to get back to World #1 and Donald got there because he is the most consistent player over a two year period of time. He has been very clutch as we have seen at Disney in 2011 when he won there to earn the PGA TOUR Money Title and we saw it again on Sunday when he won to get back to World #1. Although Donald has yet to win a Major, Donald is the most clutch player in the world of golf right now.

World #3 Lee Westwood has been World #1 and also has pressure to win a Major but he seems to be comfortable in his own skin. The lack of a Major win may weigh more on Luke Donald right now especially since he is World #1 again.

Julien Quesne’s win in the Open de Andalucia reminds Jay of the journey that Tom Lehman took through various mini tours to get to the heights of the PGA TOUR. Quesne took a similar path and last week became the 400th different player to win on the European Tour.

Arnold Palmer has had a profound impact on the game of golf through his performance and his charisma. Many people call Seve Ballesteros the Arnold Palmer for European golf and Palmer was the one who went over to Europe for the Open Championship which led to the revitalization of that Major. Palmer has given so much of himself to the game of golf and everyone involved in the game should be extremely thankful.
