Kaymer, Colsaerts, and Francesco Molinari are grouped together in the first 2 rounds this week and all will be at Medinah on the European Ryder Cup team. Everyone on that team is waiting for Kaymer to play well again because he has struggled in 2012 and no one wants to be forced to hide a recent Major Champion and recent World #1 because he is not playing well.
In taking a closer look at Kaymer, Townsend said that he has the game and the attitude to team well with anyone on Olazabal’s team. He is capable of great golf but he has not shown this in a long time. If Kaymer does not play well this week, Townsend doubts that Kaymer will play more than 3 times in the Ryder Cup.
The greens at the BMW Italian Open are very subtle and challenging but this course is a bomber’s paradise because it is not only a long course but it is also a course with wide fairways. Townsend expects a long hitter like a Nicolas Colsaerts to play well this week.
