GolfChannel.com Senior Writer Rex Hoggard is in New York City for the announcement of the 4 U.S. Captain’s Picks for the 2012 Ryder Cup team. He had the chance to speak with Hunter Mahan and Rickie Fowler yesterday and when he spoke to Mahan, he could sense a feeling of defeat. Based on his body language and his comments, Mahan seemed to feel as though he was going to miss out on the 2012 Ryder Cup.

Davis Love III is using updated points lists to try to determine his four picks and in his opinion, the final pick will come down to Hunter Mahan and Brandt Snedeker. Snedeker is a great putter and he has been playing very well lately.

Love III has also been talking with a number of members of his team during this entire process as Tiger Woods acknowledged last week. But one of the most influential voices is likely 2-time U.S. Presidents Cup Team Captain and one of his Assistant Captains Fred Couples. It is likely that Couples is playing a large role in who the four Captain’s Picks will be.
