NBC Sports Group Plans More Than 20 Hours of Tournament and News Coverage of the 2014 U.S. Women's Open From Famed Pinehurst

As the best female golfers in the world prepare for this week’s major championship challenge at the U.S. Women’s Open at famed Pinehurst, NBC and Golf Channel are primed to deliver more than 20 hours of combined live tournament and news coverage.  NBC’s coverage begins at 3 p.m. ET on Saturday, June 21 and Sunday, June 22. 

ANALYSIS FROM BEST WOMEN’S GOLFER EVER:  Hall-of-Famer and three-time U.S. Women’s Open champion Annika Sorenstam will join Golf Channel on NBC’s play-by-play commentator Dan Hicks and analyst Gary Koch in the main booth for NBC’s weekend coverage. 

NBC TOURNAMENT BROADCAST TEAM:  Joining Hicks, Koch and Sorenstam on NBC’s broadcast team will be Mark Rolfing and Steve Sands, who will report from outer tower positions.  Sands also will conduct player interviews.  Walking with the players and reporting from the golf course will be Kay Cockerill, Jane Crafter and Roger Maltbie.

GOLF CENTRAL AND MORNING DRIVE NEWS SOURCES FOR U.S. WOMEN’S OPEN:  Golf Channel will provide extensive news coverage of the U.S. Women’s Open, featuring inside analysis, player interviews, compelling features and live news reports from Golf Channel and NBC analysts on-site from Pinehurst throughout the week.  2004 Women’s British Open champion and Golf Channel analyst Karen Stupples will provide insight and analysis on Golf Central.  Additionally, the U.S. Women’s Open will lead the topic of discussion all week on Morning Drive, Golf Channel’s daily news and lifestyle show, featuring interviews from Pinehurst throughout the week.

PRESS CONFERENCE COVERAGE: Golf Channel will provide coverage of pre-tournament press conferences from the U.S. Women's Open on Tuesday and Wednesday.

DIGITAL COVERAGE:  Live streaming of tournament action, news and analysis of the U.S. Women’s Open will be offered via NBCU digital properties NBCSports.com and GolfChannel.com, and mobile applications NBC Sports Live Extra and Golf Live Extra. GolfChannel.com senior writer Randall Mell also will be filing daily reports from Pinehurst.
