Injured Creamer cleared to defend Jamie Farr title

LPGA Tour _newAs long as Paula Creamer can stand the pain, shes cleared to defend her title this week at the LPGAs Jamie Farr Owens Corning Classic and to play in next weeks U.S. Womens Open.
Thats the word from the hand and wrist specialist she saw Monday morning in Toledo, Ohio, according to a source close to the player.
Creamer, who withdrew from the Wegmans LPGA on Friday due to injury, was diagnosed with tendonitis and inflammation of the joint capsule of the left thumb. She received a cortisone shot Monday with the specialist telling her that as long as she could endure the pain the injury would cause, she is in no danger of further injuring herself.
Creamer, 22, won the Jamie Farr event last year, but her ability to defend was in doubt when she had to withdraw from Wegmans after making a swing in the middle of the second round. She left the tournament with her left hand heavily bandaged. She putted after seeing the doctor Monday and plans to try to play nine holes on Tuesday in preparation of her title defense.
Its been a challenging season physically for Creamer.
Creamer went the first 106 starts of her LPGA career as a pro without withdrawing due to illness or injury. She even played the final round of the ADT Championship last year despite spending the night in a South Florida hospital with a stomach ailment that dogged her through the fall season. The mystery malady carried into the start of this season and became so intolerable at the end of March, she withdrew because of stomach pain before the first round of the J Golf Phoenix International.
Though specialists based in her Orlando , Fla. , home were unable to discover the cause of the stomach pains, Creamer appeared to finally be shaking free of the problem this past month.
Although Creamer, an eight-time LPGA winner, has yet to win this season, she has recorded one second-place finish and three thirds. Shes No. 4 in the world rankings and eighth on this seasons money list.
