The LPGA and Brasil1 are expected to announce later today that they will sanction the HSBC Brasil Cup as an unofficial LPGA event later next month in Brazil.
A 27-player field will compete for a $700,000 purse at Itanhanga Golf Club in Rio de Janeiro. The 36-hole exhibition will be played May 29-30.
The event is an added opportunity to play for unofficial money for top LPGA pros, whose priority to commit will be based off last year's money list. Brazil will be host to the first Olympics featuring golf in 2016. Top-ranked players from Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Colombia and Pararguay will also compete.
Catriona Matthew won the LPGA's Brasil Cup in Rio de Janeiro a year ago, when it was a 15-player event with a $500,000 purse.
