Woods and those awful greens

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. – Tiger Woods got a lot of criticism for calling the Pebble Beach greens “awful” earlier this week, but he sounded like a guy who believed he was speaking for players who wouldn’t speak up.

Asked Saturday if he regretted the comment, Woods said: “A lot of players felt the same, they just didn’t say it.”

U.S. Golf Association executive director David Fay took Woods to task on the original criticism.

“As far as the greens are concerned, he’s wrong,” Fay told the Associated Press. “That old statement that you’re entitled to your opinion? He is entitled to his opinion, but he’s off on his facts. These putting surfaces have never been better.”
