Woods scrambles his way around front nine

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Tiger Woods is making the most of an uncooperative driver on his front nine Friday at the Masters.

Woods blew his first tee shot left and into the trees but scrambled to a par. He also missed fairways left at No. 3 (though just barely) and No. 5. He missed right at No. 7 and then barely missed the green after carving a giant slice around a towering pine. He came up just short but chipped to 2 feet to save par. Woods hit just three of seven fairways on the front nine and yet his only bogey was at No. 4, the 240-yard par 3, where the tees are way up.

Woods is in scrambling mode, making his way around the front nine in even par to remain 4-under for the tournament. He hit five of nine greens in regulation. The only missed putt he might want back was at No. 4, where he missed an 8-footer for par after missing the green left. He made a 3-footer for birdie at No. 2 after a short chip from the back of that 575-yard par 5. He hasn't had another birdie putt shorter than 20 feet.
