Woods still struggling off the tee

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – Tiger Woods barely reached the fairway with a 3-wood at the seventh hole.

His tee shot sailed weakly just 190 yards.

Woods let go of his club on the follow through.

Though Woods scrambled for par and is even par through seven holes, he's still struggling off the tee.

Pat Perez said he watched Woods find a fix at the back of the range Tuesday, but Woods hasn’t been able to take it onto the course yet today. Perez said Woods altered his takeaway in work after their practice round, taking it inside more. He said Woods didn’t miss a shot for a half hour after making that change. Obviously, taking a fix from the range to the course is a trick, even for the world’s No. 1 player.

Woods’ stats are deceiving so far. That fat shot into the seventh fairway actually counts as a fairway hit. He’s hit four of six fairways today, but he clearly isn’t comfortable on the tee box. His first tee shot of the day, a 3-wood, was a dead pull left into the trees. He steered his second tee shot into the fairway with a stinger. He missed the fourth fairway right. A two-way miss plagued Woods when he missed the cut at the Quail Hollow Championship last week.
