ST. ANDREWS, Scotland – Many among the United Kingdom’s press corps expected Tiger Woods to get a less-than-warm welcome from the Scottish masses during this week’s Open Championship, but the crowd was favorable, if not friendly, for Woods.
“They’ve always been respectful and enthusiastic here. There’s no reason it would be any different,” Woods said of the crowds.
Woods was also asked repeatedly during his Tuesday press conference if he felt his attempts to clean up his on-course behavior had been successful. After a poor approach shot at the sixth hole Woods slammed his iron into the ground. The good news for the U.K. press, however, he didn’t spit once on the golf course.
