Woods battles two-way miss

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Tiger Woods described his Wednesday pro-am at Quail Hollow Club as “scratchy.” Thursday’s 2-over 74? “Worse,” he said.

Although he played better on his final nine holes (35) than he did going out (39) and battled back from 4 over to post something closer to par, Woods was clearly not pleased with his first PGA Tour round of the year.

“It wasn’t my driver, it was everything,” said Woods, who hit just 29 percent of his fairways and took 28 putts on Thursday. “I had the two-way miss going, just one of those things.”

Souring Woods’ mood even more was calm conditions and a leaderboard with plenty of red numbers. There are currently 27 cards under par midway through the opening round.

“The course could be had today,” Woods said.

When asked what he planned to work on Thursday afternoon, Woods was clear: “Not a damn thing.”
