Woods Co slow and steady

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Tiger Woods & Co. made it through Amen Corner without incident or injury. In fact, save a few wayward shots the site of some of the game’s most raucous happings was largely quiet.

Woods teed with Fred Couples earlier Monday in his first “official” practice round of the year and the group was met with polite, if not somewhat quiet, applause. In fact, many in the capacity gallery seemed more fired up to see Champions Tour sensation Couples than the long-awaited return of the world No. 1.

As for the golf, Woods didn’t seem to be at his Sunday best, sailing his tee shot over the 12th green and his second shot wide of the putting surface at the 13th hole. In fact, Woods seemed unconcerned with the slow pace of play, waiting on the 13th green for about 15 minutes to allow Jim Furyk to join the group.

No hurry, it seems, to make it into the press center for that long-awaited appointment.
