Woods pauses round for Watson

ST. ANDREWS, Scotland – Tiger Woods electrified the St. Andrews twilight with a drive at the last hole that hit in front of the green, raced just past the cup and came to rest 12 feet away. Before he took his eagle attempt, however, Woods and the other members of his group singled the group behind them to tee off.

Tom Watson, playing in his last Open Championship at St. Andrews, was in the group behind Woods and likely to miss the cut at 4 over. Since officials were about to suspend play for the day because of darkness, and a group can only finish a hole if they’ve teed off, Woods, Camilo Villegas and Justin Rose marked their golf balls and waved Watson up, who birdied the hole after hitting his drive just short of the green.
