Woods wild ride

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Tiger Woods is off to a scrambling start Friday at Augusta National, missing the fairway wide left at No. 1 but saving himself with a handsome up-and-down for par. He followed with a birdie at the par-5 second hole and bogey at the fourth as he closes on the turn in the same position where he started the day, 4 under.

In Woods’ defense, the high-wire act is less about his own game than it is about a golf course that is starting to harden, both figuratively and literally.
