AUGUSTA, Ga. – Tiger Woods made it through Augusta National’s first loop quietly, even par for the day and two behind the leaders. The same can’t be said for his playing companion Matt Kuchar who played from the grass and into two cups on the par 4.
From the middle of the ninth fairway Kuchar’s approach sailed right of the green, bounced once and dropped directly into Jason Thompson’s cup, sending the contents (Coke) splashing over his shirt and beyond.
Thompson was fine, if not a tad sticky, and Kuchar scrambled for a par.
“He said, ‘Thanks for catching the ball,’” said Thompson, who is from Summerville, S.C. “He got to take a drop.”
