*We love Patriots quarterback Tom Brady. Twice when our cameras were rolling he stood tall in the pocket and dropped lengthy putts, including a 20-footer at Pebbles 18th in miserable weather that mustve felt like an ordinary Sunday in Foxboro.
*We love Ernies desire to be No. 1 in three years. It may be unrealistic in light of a certain obstacle, but its an admirable goal. Those of us who know and like Ernie refuse to believe that hell fizzle at the three-major plateau where he currently resides.
*We love Sergios ball hitting, but wed really like to see him free up his putting stroke. Golf needs the Spaniard to start winning and challenging at majors'this year.
*We love the absurdity of life. I had a bit part in a commercial for EA Sports recently in which Tiger traipses into his living room with a turkey sandwich before playing his video game. At one point I witnessed an agitated producer angrily say to a staffer, We need the 12 grain bread not the seven grain! Seriously.
*We love The European Tour, nimbly staking out new markets from The Middle East to China while dominating The Ryder Cup and boldly clipping Tigers claws in the midst of his PGA TOUR streak.
*We love the progress David Duvals made.
*We love golf fan Joey Bozik, a triple amputee two years removed from his devastating duties in Iraq. Of his plight he says, I really had no choice. I could sit on the couch and eat potato chips or get on with my life. Bozik, visiting Pebble Beach last weekend, plays twice a week near San Francisco, where he works for Wells Fargo Bank. Hes married to a beautiful woman who never deserted him, even when Joey gave her the opportunity to walk away knowing thered be things hed never be able to do for her, like run down the beach carrying her in my arms. Jayme, his bride of two years, looked at it differently as she recalled her reaction in October of 2004 just after his injury. He still had everything he needed to have a meaningful relationship, she said. He had his head and he had his heart.
