Rory, G-Mac support Irish Open at Fota Island

The European Tour’s Irish Open is headed back to Fota Island Resort for the first time in 12 years.

The tournament, scheduled for June 19-22, is expected to have Rory McIlroy and Graeme McDowell in the field.

“I think it is great news that the Irish Open will be played at Fota Island,” McIlroy said in a release. “The country’s national open should be moved around to give everyone an opportunity to see the event, and it also gives us the chance to show the world just how many amazing courses there are in Ireland.”

Soren Hansen won the last Irish Open that was held at Fota Island, back in 2002.

Last year’s event, held at Carton House, was won by Paul Casey

Other recent venues for the Irish Open include Royal Portrush, Killarney and County Louth.
