Each week on GolfChannel.com, we’ll examine which players’ stocks and trends are rising and falling in the world of golf.
The Masters (+10%): This year’s overwhelming favorite is … oh, we have no idea. Isn’t it wonderful?
Lexi (+10%): Ladies, meet your boss for the next 15 years.
Drive, Chip & Putt (+7%): What a delight to watch the adrenaline-fueled kiddos compete at one of the game’s most iconic venues. This initiative will prove the most successful – both in the short- and long-term – in growing the game.
Big Wiesy (+5%): No, she didn’t win the Kraft, but once again the former teen prodigy showed her game is trending upward. Even better: Afterward, Wie was effusive in her praise of Lexi’s big game. Pure class.
Lexi’s caddie (+4%): Dude earned high marks from the X Games judges for his rodeo flip into Poppie’s Pond … never mind that his skull was nearly crushed by Lexi’s father.
Augusta National (+3%): Monday’s practice round was a washout, so the club offered patrons not only a refund of their ticket but also a chance to buy another one in 2015. Polite applause.
Sergio (+2%): Guess who appears to be peaking just in time to have his heart broken again?
Magazine covers (-4%): The LPGA players were rightfully peeved at the Digest cover, which was made worse by a statement saying that Paulina has the potential to get “new people interested in the game.” By being only tangentially related to both golf and fitness? Got it.
Kooch (-6%): The smiling assassin was in the final group the past two Sundays, and each time he walked away empty-handed. Kuchar has top 10s in his last two trips to Augusta, but at this point not even he can know with certainty how he’d play down the stretch. Speaking of which …
54-hole leaders (-7%): They’re just 9-for-20 this season, and 26-for-58 (44 percent) since the start of 2013. Perhaps Lexi can give them a few lessons on how to close out a tournament.
John Daly’s diet (-8%): The worst part: We’re not all that surprised that JD downs 12 cans of Diet Coke and chain-smokes 40 cigs a day.
