Ryder Cup Hangover Cure

RSS

Fresh off their emotional upset of the Americans in the 34th playing of the Ryder Cup, the European Tour gathers at the home of golf, St Andrews, for the second edition of the Dunhill Links Championship.

Much like the PGA Tour's Pebble Beach Pro-Am, the Dunhill Links pairs together one professional and one amateur to form a team. A total of 156 teams will contest the first three rounds, after which the field will be reduced to the leading 60 professionals and the 20 leading teams.

Last year Paul Lawrie captured the inaugural event in dramatic fashion. Facing a 40-footer from the 'Valley of Sin' on the tournament's final hole at 18, Lawrie bombed in the putt to defeat Ernie Els by a stroke.

A star-studded European field is scheduled to play and includes the likes of Retief Goosen, Els, Padraig Harrington, Vijay Singh, Adam Scott, Justin Rose, Darren Clarke and more.

The strong field is attributed to the fact that for the last month or so the European events have suffered because of the PGA Championship, the WGC-NEC, the WGC-American Express, and last week's Ryder Cup.

The field of amateurs will also be peppered with famous actors, athletes, rock stars and comedians, much like at Pebble Beach.

And after last week's big win at the Ryder Cup, the Europeans are going to try to keep the party train rolling.
