Ames Breaks into Top 30 in Rankings


Stephen Ames moved up 37 places to No. 27 in the current Official World Golf Rankings following his win Sunday at The Players Championship.
The top six players from last week retained their positions this week: Tiger Woods was first again, followed by Vijay Singh, Retief Goosen, Phil Mickelson, Ernie Els and Sergio Garcia.
Jim Furyk finished tied for third on Sunday and moved up one spot to seventh, switching places with David Toms. Adam Scott, Luke Donald and Chris DiMarco remained ninth, 10th and 11th.
Henrik Stenson also tied for third place at The Players Championship, a finish that vaulted him four places to No. 12 in the world.
Stenson was followed by David Howell, Colin Montgomerie, Darren Clarke, Davis Love III, Kenny Perry, Rory Sabbatini, Geoff Ogilvy and Chad Campbell to round out the top 20.
Montgomerie, Perry and Campbell all lost ground in this week's rankings, while Clarke, Love, Sabbatini and Ogilvy moved up. Ogilvy broke into the top 20 after being 21st last week.
