Appleby Climbs to 11th in World Rankings


Stuart Appleby climbed to No. 11 in the latest Official World Golf Ranking following his victory at the Mercedes Championships on Sunday and in the process moved by Adam Scott to become the top-ranked Australian golfer in the world.
Vijay Singh remained the world No. 1, despite hurting his title quest in Maui with a costly triple-bogey in the final round. Tiger Woods, who tied for third behind Appleby at the Mercedes Championships, stayed put at No. 2.
Ernie Els was next at No. 3 followed by Retief Goosen, Phil Mickelson and Padraig Harrington. Sergio Garcia moved up two positions to No. 7, while Davis Love III dropped one to No. 8. Mike Weir came in at the ninth position this week and Stewart Cink completed the top 10.
Appleby was 11th, while Adam Scott followed closely at No. 12. Miguel Angel Jimenez dropped to 13th.
Darren Clarke, Chris DiMarco and Todd Hamilton held onto their places from the previous ranking. Chad Campbell exchanged positions with Stephen Ames to come in at No. 17 with Ames falling to No. 18.
Kenny Perry was next at No. 19 and David Toms rounded out the top 20.
