Big Win Bolsters Scotts World Ranking

Adam Scott solidified his position as the fourth-ranked player in the latest Official World Golf Rankings thanks to his win Sunday at The Tour Championship.
Tiger Woods remained No. 1, with Jim Furyk No. 2 and Phil Mickelson No. 3. Scott closed the gap between himself and Mickelson from 1.27 average points to 0.63 average points.
Following Scott, Vijay Singh and Retief Goosen remained in their positions from a week ago. Luke Donald moved up to No. 7, while Ernie Els was down one to eighth.
Sergio Garcia and Geoff Ogilvy rounded out the top 10. The next five -- Padraig Harrington, Henrik Stenson, Trevor Immelman, David Howell and Paul Casey -- all held their spots from last week.
David Toms shared 14th behind Scott at The Tour Championship and that helped him inch up to 16th in the new rankings. To make room, Davis Love III slipped to No. 17. Colin Montgomerie remained in 18th this week.
Spaniard Jose Maria Olazabal and Chris DiMarco exchanged spots from last week with the Spaniard up to 19th and the American sliding to No. 20.
