Brisky an Ace in Wichita

WICHITA, Kan. -- Mike Brisky fired a 7-under 64 to lead after Round 1 of the Wichita Open. Brisky stands one shot clear of Blaine McCallister, Omar Uresti and Mark Hensby.
Bradley Hughes, Jeff Freeman, Barry Cheesman, Tag Ridings, Kevin Durkin, Jeff Klauk and Eduardo Herrera share fifth place at 5-under-par 66.
After opening with two birdies and a bogey over his first four holes, Brisky's tee shot found the bottom of the cup for an ace at the par-3 fifth on the North Course at Crestview Country Club.
Brisky followed that up with a birdie at the par-4 seventh and the 38-year-old continued his fine play on the back nine.
He tallied a birdie at the par-3 12th and added a birdie at the par-5 14th to move to minus-6. Brisky then birdied the par-5 last to secure sole possession of the lead after the opening round.
Jason Bohn and Andre Stolz, both winners on the Nationwide Tour in 2003, finished in a group at 4-under-par 67.
They were joined by Joe Ogilvie, who tops the money list, and Ted Purdy among others in a tie for 12th.
Tyler Williamson, who could still become the first player to ever successfully defend his title on the Nationwide Tour, played the back nine first and had a solid start with two birdies and a bogey.
The 31-year-old moved to 2 under on his round with a birdie at the par-4 fourth but found trouble with a triple bogey at the par-3 eighth. Williamson recovered what he could with a birdie at the ninth to finish with a round of even-par 71.
