Coe-Jones Leads Kerr Tanks in Rd 2

2005 Longs Drugs ChallengeAUBURN, Calif. -- Dawn Coe-Jones shot a 5-under 66 on Friday to move into the lead at the Longs Drugs Challenge. Coe-Jones stands at 9-under par 133 for the tournament, two strokes clear of seven players tied for second place.
Play was suspended again due to darkness with two golfers remaining on the course at The Ridge Golf Club. The third round is scheduled to begin off split tees between 12:00 and 12:15 p.m. ET on Saturday morning after the cut is set.
Overnight leader Cristie Kerr, who fired a 9-under 62 in her first round, was a second-round casualty. The LPGA's third-leading money winner was still in the lead at minus-11 through 14 holes, but she lost six strokes on three holes and ended her day tied for 12th place at 5 under.
'It was a bit of a meltdown out there,' admitted Kerr, whose 75 included a nine at the par-5 15th and a five at the par-3 17th.
Coe-Jones' second round was decidedly steadier.
After beginning on the back nine with three straight pars, she stumbled to a bogey at the par-4 13th. But that would be the only dropped shot of the day for the 44-year-old, who made the turn at 5-under after consecutive birdies at 15 and 16.
Coe-Jones posted consecutive birdies at the par-5 second and par-3 third, and then did it again with birdies at six and seven to reach 9 under.
'It was fun to play a round of golf and not worry about making the cut,' Coe- Jones said.
The 21-year-pro is seeking her fourth LPGA title since 1992 and first since the 1995 Chrysler-Plymouth Tournament of Champions.
Trailing Coe-Jones by two strokes heading into the weekend are Riko Higashio (64), Joanne Morley (67), Lindsey Wright (68), Heather Daly-Donofrio (66), Beth Daniel (69), Sherri Steinhauer (65) and Nicole Perrot (66).
Defending champion Christina Kim shot her second straight 68 and is tied for ninth place with Michele Redman (67) and Hee-Won Han, who fired the low round of the day with an 8-under 63. The trio came in at minus-6.
Annika Sorenstam shot a 2-under 69 in her second round and is tied for 12th place at minus-5 with nine other players.
