Daley Eyes History at Nationwide Event

2006 Preferred Wichita OpenThe Nationwide Tour remains in the Mid-west this week for the second of three straight events in the nation's heartland.
The Preferred Health Systems Wichita Open will have defending champion Joe Daley back this week to attempt to repeat as champion. No player in Nationwide Tour history has won the same event two straight years.
Daley, like Bradley Hughes the year before, needed extra holes last year to earn the win. Daley birdied the first playoff hole to beat Shane Bertsch for the second tour win of his career. Bertsch, who won earlier last year, has moved on to the PGA TOUR.
The 45-year-old Daley had moved into position to earn his PGA TOUR card with this win last year, but he slipped to 24th on the Nationwide Tour money list in '05 and was unable to secure his card. He ranks 95th this year on the money list.
There is no television coverage this week.

Next up for the Nationwide Tour is the Cox Classic. Jason Gore claimed the crown there last year, his second win of 2005, en route to earn a battlefield promotion to the PGA TOUR with three victories in a single season.
