Defending Champ Eaton Out of Mid-Am


USGACHATTANOOGA, Tenn. -- Kevin Marsh defeated defending champion Austin Eaton III, 3 and 2 in Tuesday's third round of the U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship.
Marsh will now face Tripp Davis in Wednesday's quarterfinals. Davis advanced thanks to a 2-and-1 victory over Parker Smith at The Honors Course.
Trey Lewis, who was Tuesday's first winner, bested Bryan Hoops, 4 and 2 and will take on Steven Liebler, who moved into the quarterfinals with a 1-up victory in 22 holes over Rick Dewitt.
Michael McCoy topped Cliff Benson, 3 and 2 and Brendan Hester needed one extra hole to dispatch Bryan Norton, 1-up. McCoy will meet Hester on Wednesday morning.
Carlton Forrester earned a 2-and-1 victory over Danny Green to set up a showdown with Kenneth Kellaney, who parred the final hole Tuesday to post a 1-up win over Frank Vana, Jr.
On Wednesday, the quarterfinals and semifinals are on tap and on Thursday, there will be the 36-hole final.
