Last year was a battle to the finish for a pair of South Africans. Retief Goosen matched Ernie Els' birdie on the 72nd hole to win by one stroke over his countryman.
Goosen closed with a 3-under 70 to end at minus-10, while Els came in at minus-9 after closing with a 68. In his third event after returning from knee surgery, Els finished second a week after winning the Alfred Dunhill Championship.
This is one of he oldest national championships in the world. Last year, the Links at Fancourt was the host, while this year's event will be contested at Humewood Golf Club.
Coming off his win at the Alfred Dunhill Championship, rookie Alvaro Quiros will tee it up again this week against the likes of Els, Goosen and Trevor Immelman.
The Golf Channel has all four rounds of coverage this week. After a three-week break, the tour returns to action in South Africa with the Joburg Open.
