European Tour Picks Up Where it Left Off

European TourJOHANNESBURG, South Africa -- It's the beginning of a new year for the European Tour, but not a new season. That happened months ago now.

The tour picks up where it left off December 17 with another event in South Africa, the last of three straight in country. This is the inaugural Joburg Open, but there will be plenty of familiar faces on hand.

At least for the locals.

Nearly 60 players from South Africa will be competing among the larger-than- normal field this week, although top players Ernie Els and Retief Goosen will not be among them.

The Golf Channel will begin its coverage at 10 a.m. ET each day.

Next week, the tour remains on the road with the Abu Dhabi Golf Championship, where American Chris DiMarco claimed his first European Tour victory last year.
