Tournament officials came to the decision early Thursday morning and deemed the oversaturated golf course at The Dominion Club unplayable.
'The golf course is just not playable right now, given the amount of rain we've had lately,' said Nationwide Tour Tournament Director John Slater. 'We haven't been able to give the maintenance crew time to get out and work on some of the problem areas and we need to do that before we are hit with more possible rain today. We will reassess the condition of The Dominion Club course tomorrow morning.'
The Richmond area has been inundated with rain in 22 of the first 28 days of May. A total of 7.75 inches of rain has been measured since May 1, significantly more than the normal 3.59 inches for the same course of time. More rain is expected Thursday.
'It's an unfortunate situation but we are going to do everything we can to get the course ready for play on Friday,' said Slater. 'It is still our intention to complete 72 holes of play by Sunday evening and we will do everything we can to make that come about.'
