Sunshine TourMALELANE, South Africa -- Titch Moore recorded an albatross on the par-5 sixth hole Thursday en route to a 4-under 68 and a share of the first-round lead at the South African Tour Championship. Desvonde Botes, Craig Lile and Keith Horne joined Moore in a tie for first at Leopard Creek.

Fourteen-year-old amateur Ashleigh Simon became the first female amateur to play in a men's professional event in South Africa Thursday when she carded an opening-round, 6-over-par 78.

'I didn't get off to a good start, but I just told myself to play par golf after that, and not get into a state or it will get worse,' said Simon. 'But I got a lot of support. It's a big difference compared with playing in a ladies amateur tournament.'

While Simon struggled with the length of the course, Moore did not. At the par-5 sixth hole, Moore holed a 6-iron from 224 yards out for the first double eagle of his career.

'I was always looking to make a four there,' said Moore, referring to the sixth. 'But I just wanted to hit the middle of the green and kind of slide it in there. It pitched about two meters short of the hole and rolled straight in.'

Lile had also been in contention the past few weeks at the South African Airways Open and Telkom PGA Championship. He failed to win either, but the experience might help him get to the winner's circle Sunday.

'Looking back, if certain putts or certain holes had been different I could be leading the money list now,' admitted Lile, who mixed an eagle, four birdies and two bogeys in his round Thursday.

Botes also combined an eagle, four birdies and two bogeys in round one. He will look to take the next step after a second last week at the Telkom PGA Championship.

Horne recorded five birdies and a single bogey.

Bradford Vaughan and Andrew McLardy share fifth at 3-under-par 69.

Nico van Rensburg, Wallie Coetsee and Marc Cayeux are tied for seventh at minus-2.
