Greater Hickory Extends Deal with Tour


2004 Greater Hickory Classic at Rock BarnCONOVER, N.C. -- The Champions Tour announced on Thursday that the Greater Hickory Classic at Rock Barn has extended its agreement with the tour through 2006.
Next year, the event will take place in early October, with the 2006 dates to be announced next year.
In its first year, the Greater Hickory Classic at Rock Barn drew over 90,000 fans when it was held in late September 2003. The second playing of the tournament is this weekend, where Craig Stadler will defend his crown.
'In two short years, the Greater Hickory Classic at Rock Barn has had a positive economic impact on the Greater Hickory region and has contributed significantly to area charities,' said Don Beaver, CEO of the Rock Barn Golf and Spa. 'This event is important for our community, and we are thrilled to have been awarded an extension by the Champions Tour.'
This year, NASCAR driver Dale Jarrett, who serves as the tournament's Honorary Chairman, hosted a five-hole shoot-out for charity as part of the week-long events surrounding the tournament.
