Hansen Early Leader in Edmonton

EDMONTON, Alberta -- Matt Hansen posted a 7-under-par 64 on Thursday to take a one-stroke lead after the first round of the TELUS Edmonton Open.
Marcus Jones, Scott McNeil and Mike Belbin share second place at 6-under-par 65.
'I've been hitting it well all year, but I'd have two good rounds and then have a bad weekend,' said Hansen, who has made the cut in each of his last five starts on the Canadian Tour. 'This was very important, to get that start. If you shoot even par on a day like today, you are really going to have to do some damage over the last three days to have a shot.'
Scott Hawley, Chris Cureton, John Ellis and Luke Hickmot are tied at 5-under-par 66 at Edmonton Country Club. Defending champion Stephen Woodard was one shot further back in a group at 4-under-par 67.
NHL Hall of Famer Grant Fuhr carded a 1-over-par 72 to finish eight shots back.
