Hansen Extends Advantage in Canada


Canadian Tour-LargeEDMONTON, Alta.-- Matt Hansen shot a 5-under 66 Friday to extend his lead after the second round of the TELUS Edmonton Open. Hansen finished 36 holes at 12-under-par 130, three shots ahead of Peter Tomasulo.
Jon Turcott finished alone in third place at 8-under-par 134 after a round of 65 at Edmonton Country Club. Wes Heffernan was one shot further back at 7-under-par 135 along with amateur Ryan Lecuyer and Matt McQuillan.
Hansen birdied the par-5 first and tallied another birdie at the par-3 fourth. He added a birdie at the par-5 eighth to make the turn at 10-under par.
The 25-year-old dropped a shot with a bogey at the par-3 13th but he bounced back with two straight birdies from the 14th. Hansen then birdied the closing hole to head to the weekend with a solid lead.
'I just kept plugging away and it all worked out in the end,' said Hansen. 'I got out there, went out to work early and tried to get comfortable.'
Jason Higton, David Mathis, Julien Trudeau, Bobby Kalinowski, Todd Tanner, Dan Roberts, Jeff McCammon, Brian Guetz, Luke Hickmott and Jim Lemon finished at 6-under-par 136.
The halfway cut fell at 1-under-par 141. Last year's winner Stephen Woodard missed the cut at even-par 142
