USGACHARLOTTE, NC -- Mina Harigae, a day after earning medalist honors in stroke-play, won her first two matches of the U.S. Girls' Junior Championship to advance to the third round at Carmel Country Club.

The 16-year-old Harigae, a semifinalist in 2003, beat Tiffany Dong 5 and 3 in the first round and Margaret Pentracak 4 and 3 in the second round to advance.

Harigae has had a great record in USGA events. She was co-medalist at this year's Women's Amateur Public Links Championship before getting knocked out in the quarterfinals.

Only three other second round matches were completed after action was halted at 4:45 p.m. due to inclement weather. Sara Hurwitch topped Ariana Patterson 3 and 2 and Wonjoo Choi 3 and 2, Cyndey Clanton defeated Maude-Aimee Leblanc 1- up and Kristina Wong 4 and 3, and Stephanie Kono beat Courtney Harter 5 and 4 and Brianna Do 3 and 1. Jane Rah also advanced to third round after Mindy Kim retired in their second round match.

Isabelle Lendl, the daughter of tennis Hall of Famer Ivan Lendl, defeated Ashley Edwards 3 and 2 in the first round and was 3-up on Kimberly Kim through 13 holes.

Fourteen-year-old MacKinzie Kline, who was granted the use of a golf cart because of a congenital heart defect, fell in the first round to Ayaka Kaneko 2-up.

Dakoda Dowd, who became the youngest player to compete in an LPGA tournament earlier this year at the age of 13, lost in the first round to Choi 4 and 3. Dowd played in the Ginn Clubs & Resorts Open in late April because her mother, Kelly Jo, is battling breast cancer and wanted to see her daughter play on tour.

Ivan Lendl's other daughter, Marika, also exited in the first round after losing to Wong 1-up.

Last year, In-Kyung Kim defeated fellow 17-year-old In-Bee Park to win the event, which has proven to be a springboard for success for LPGA talent over the years. Past winners of this championship include Nancy Lopez, Hollis Stacy Amy Alcott and Pat Hurst. Stacy was a three-time champion while Lopez captured this event twice.
