Lat year, Martin Kaymer stumbled to a 2-over 74 in the final round last year, but it was more than enough for the win.
Kaymer opened 66-65 en route to a four-shot win over European Ryder Cup performers Henrik Stenson and Lee Westwood. Kaymer led by six after three rounds, but his advantage fell to two during the final round.
After that dip, the German closed with five pars and a birdie as his closest competitors went backwards.
Kaymer and 2007 winner Paul Casey are back in the field in the fourth-year event of the season.
The Golf Channel will have three hours of coverage each day this week.
The European Tour remains in the Persian Gulf region next week for the Qatar Masters, where Adam Scott closed with an 11-under 61 to win by three over Henrik Stenson last year.
