Johnson Medalist at Champions Q-School


Champions TourST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. -- Mark Johnson fired an 8-under 64 on Monday to earn medalist honors at the Champions Tour National Qualifying Tournament. He finished the six-round marathon at 25-under-par 407 and won by two over Tom McKnight at The King & The Bear course.
McKnight went even lower with a 9-under 63 on Monday. Brad Bryant shot a 5-under 67 and took third place at 22-under-par 410.
Hajime Meshiai and Don Reese, the co-leaders after the fifth round, only managed 1-under-par 71s, but shared fourth place with R.W. Eaks, who posted a 70 on Monday. The group was knotted at 20-under-par 412.
Pat McGowan birdied the third extra hole to win a playoff with Norm Jarvis and take seventh place. The two tied at 19-under-par 413 and had to go to an extra session because the top-seven finishers earned full exempt status for the 2005 season. The remaining eight got conditional cards for next year.
Ireland's Des Smyth (69) and Lonnie Nielsen (65) tied for ninth at minus-18. Gary Robison carded a 5-under 67 for 11th place at 17-under-par 415.
Former Champions Tour player Dick Mast posted a 1-under 71 and finished alone in 12th at minus-16. John Ross and Mike Ferguson each carded rounds of 6-under 66 and shared 13th at 15-under-par 417.
Mike San Filippo won a playoff for the final conditional spot. He outlasted Jim Ahern and Daniel Talbot as the three tied at 14-under-par 418.
