Kiawah Island to Host 03 World Cup

The 2003 World Golf Championships-EMC World Cup will be played at the Ocean Course at Kiawah Island Resorts, the International Federation of PGA Tours has announced.
'We're very excited to have the greatest players in the world return to Kiawah Island and the Ocean Course' said Prem Devadas, managing director of Kiawah Island Resorts. 'The EMC World Cup coming to South Carolina represents the most prestigious international sporting event held in the state for more than a decade.'
The 1991 Ryder Cup matches were held at the Ocean Course and was also site of the 1997 World Cup of Golf. The United States won the 1991 Ryder Cup at Kiawah Island in one of the most dramatic finishes of all time. Bernhard Langer of Germany narrowly missed winning the competition for Europe when his six-foot putt slid by the hole on the 18th green, preserving the United States' half-point triumph.
The EMC World Cup joined the World Golf Championships series in 2000 and was won by the United States team of Tiger Woods and David Duval at Buenos Aires Golf Club in Argentina. The South African team of Ernie Els, the British Open winner over the weekend, and Retief Goosen captured the 2001 championship that was held at The Taiheiyo Club's Gotemba Course in Shizuoka, Japan.
This year's event will be held December 10-15 at Vista Vallarta's Nicklaus Course in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.
