The Ocean Course, a Pete Dye designed layout which opened in 1991, was the site of the thrilling 1991 Ryder Cup Matches. Since then, the Ocean Course at Kiawah Island hosted the 1997 and 2003 World Cup of Golf and will play host to the PGA Club Professional Championship in 2005.
'The PGA of America is proud that the premier event in senior golf, the Senior PGA Championship, will be staged at another world-class venue -- the Ocean Course,' said PGA of America President M.G. Orender. 'Since its debut to the golf world, the Ocean Course has produced its own special aura and stands as a bridge to many of the legendary and most challenging courses. We anticipate one of our greatest Senior PGA Championships in 2007.'
The Senior PGA Championship is the oldest event in senior golf. The prestigious championship was first played in 1937 at Augusta National at the recommendation of Bobby Jones.
The 65th Senior PGA Championship is currently being contested at Valhalla Country Club in Louisville, Kentucky. John Jacobs is the defending champion.
