Kiawah Island Lands 2012 PGA Championship

PGA of AmericaKIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. -- The PGA of America has selected the Ocean Course at Kiawah Island as the site of the 2012 PGA Championship. The announcement came Thursday as the Ocean Course was hosting the 2005 PGA Club Professional Championship.
The Ocean Course was host for the 1991 Ryder Cup matches, better known as the 'War at the Shore.'
Prior to hosting the 2012 PGA Championship, the Ocean Course will welcome the Senior PGA Championship in 2007.
'The championships of the PGA of America, Kiawah Island and the Ocean Course have enjoyed a great relationship since 1991 when the PGA introduced the world to this dramatic oceanside course,' said Jim L. Awtrey, the PGA of America's Chief Executive Officer. 'The 2012 PGA Championship will serve as another testament of our confidence in this site's ability to continue to produce special moments in championship golf history.'
Later this summer, the 87th PGA Championship will be contested on the Lower Course at Baltusrol Golf Club in Springfield, New Jersey. Vijay Singh was a playoff winner over Chris DiMarco and Justin Leonard last year at Whistling Straits Golf Club.
