Lehman Names Two Ryder Cup Assistants

PGA of America (150x150)United States Ryder Cup captain Tom Lehman has selected Corey Pavin and Loren Roberts as assistants for the 2006 matches.
Pavin and Roberts were teammates on the 1995 Ryder Cup team at Oak Hill in Rochester.
'Corey and Loren are close friends and contemporaries of mine,' said Lehman. 'When the pressure is on, these are the guys I want around me. They have proven to be extremely tough competitors and have risen to the occasion numerous times in their careers.'
Pavin won the 1995 U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills and owns 14 career PGA Tour victories. He also has a Ryder Cup record of 8-5-0, having participated in the 1991, '93 and '95 matches.
'Corey's record as a competitor is respected throughout golf,' Lehman added. 'He's one of the best pressure putters I've seen, and his tenacity while a member of the U.S. Ryder Cup Team was inspirational.'
Roberts' lone Ryder Cup appearance came in '95 and he posted a 3-1-0 record. The 49-year-old veteran has won eight PGA Tour titles and was the 1994 U.S. Open runner-up to Ernie Els.
'Loren built a reputation as a superb putter, which is a talent that is magnified in the Ryder Cup matches,' Lehman stated. 'He also is a great competitor and will complement our overall preparations for the matches.'
