Lile Moves Out Front in Athens

Nationwide TourATHENS, Ga. -- Craig Lile fired an 8-under 64 on Friday to take a one-shot lead midway through the Athens Regional Foundation Classic.
Lile is through two rounds at 15-under-par 129 -- one shot ahead of playing partner Zoran Zorkic, who also carded a 64 to reach 14 under.
A third member of the group, Boo Weekley, shot a 69 in his second round to give the threesome a combined 18-under score on Friday.
'We had a great time out there,' said Lile, who carded a bogey-free round of eight birdies and 10 pars. 'It was a great group. Boo and Zoran are great guys to play with.'
Paul Gow shot a 5-under 67 and dropped from second place after the first round into third place at 13 under. Ken Duke, the first-round leader, shot a 69 and stands alone in fourth place at minus-12.
Fran Quinn is one stroke further back in fifth place after a second-round 65.
The first round was completed in the morning after a fog delay on Thursday caused the eventual suspension of play. Fog also caused the second round to be delayed 40 minutes Friday.
None of that bothered Lile, who opened his round with three straight birdies to reach 10 under. Seven consecutive pars followed before Lile ended his round with birdies on five of his final eight holes.
'For me the key has been my consistency,' said the 29-year-old South African. 'I don't think there is one thing that stands out. I putted well, hit my irons well and drove it well.'
The stats from his round back up that claim: Lile found 12-of-14 fairways and hit 15-of-18 greens in regulation on the way to the second 36-hole lead of his career.
Like his playing partner, Zorkic got off to a hot start with birdies on three of his first four holes. He also carded a bogey-free round, adding five more birdies on the back nine.
'It was a good day,' said Zorkic, who nailed 13-of-14 fairways and 17-of-18 greens. 'I putted nicely and hit some good iron shots as well.'
The cut line fell at 3-under-par 141 with a season-high 72 players moving on to the weekend. This is the sixth of 31 Nationwide Tour events scheduled for the 2006 season.
