Lonard Cracks Top-25 in World Rankings


Peter Lonard earned his first career victory on the PGA Tour at the MCI Heritage on Sunday and in the process jumped 21 spots to come in at No. 25 in the latest edition of the Official World Golf Ranking.
Tiger Woods remained firmly entrenched atop the rankings while Vijay Singh, who will defend his title at the Shell Houston Open this week, followed at No. 2. Ernie Els stayed put at No. 3 and Phil Mickelson was next at No. 4.
Retief Goosen, Padraig Harrington, Chris DiMarco, Sergio Garcia, David Toms and Adam Scott all held their positions from last week to complete the top 10.
Mike Weir was up one spot to No. 11 while Stewart Cink dropped one to No. 12. Luke Donald stayed at No. 13 followed by Davis Love III and Kenny Perry. Darren Clarke, who had a disappointing final round at Harbour Town on Sunday, moved up one space to No. 16.
Stuart Appleby was down one position to No. 17 while Miguel Angel Jimenez stayed put at No. 18. Chad Campbell was 19th and Scott Verplank improved one spot to round out the top 20.
Peter Hanson won the Jazztel Open de Espana en Andalucia on Sunday and advanced from No. 228 to No. 135.
